BUSTER'S GREEN PLAN 2009
(this plan started the beginning of 2008. We wanted to just try one thing a month to be green,
but we kinda added a few things here and there. We realized it isn't hard to make a few changes.
So far, we were able to cut our electricity use for a family of four to be less than Grandma's!!
1. Use energy efficient light bulbs with all lights.
2. Turn off lights in rooms not used.
3. Use at least one rain barrel.
4. Compost. (I found the cheapest one at TARGET ONLINE)
5. Only use the light cycle in the dishwasher, also do not use the dry button.
6. Use only "green" cleaning products.
(Seventh Generation, etc. finally sold in local stores.)
7. Turn heat down at night and when no one is home. Also, in summer we will use central air only
when needed. (So far for 2009 only used the central air for two days.)
8. Insulate the attic. (will do in spring of 2009 after #14 is done.)
9. Turn off computer when not in use AND UNPLUG.
10. Use dryer balls instead of dryer sheets.
11. Use cloth bags for shopping. Also, you can use different cloth bags for stores. (example: Woodman
bag at Copps)
12. Replaced toilet with the Caroma toilet. It has the dual flush option. (.8 or 1.6
gpf)
The toilet is nice and the toilet seat goes down by itself. No more slamming the seat down.
13. We also bought our new Craftsman electric mower. We had a Toro electric mower for
the last 10 years but needed a new one and the new one is great!
14. WE FINALLY DID IT!! For the year of 2009, we are replacing the remaining old windows
and we are getting siding for the house. (no more painting!!)
15. We just bought rechargeable batteries, so the kids can play their games again!
16. Switched to recycled toilet paper. (That is toilet
paper made from recycled paper.)
17. Purchased the new Single Stream Recycle Bin for Green Bay.
NEXT PROJECTS:
*Install a low flow showerhead
*Order reusable produce bags so I don't need the small plastic bags buying produce at the store.
